This bead has a wood core in it that can be re-drilled or taken out so as to fit dreadlocks. The beads average between 7/8" to just over 1", every one is different. To remove the plug, I usually wet the bead and let it sit an hour or so. Then I tap on the plug with my pliers and it usually comes loose and can be pulled out.
